Who We Are >>

NeuroPsychologic Rehabilitation Services was started in a barn in the rural hillsides of Chatham, New York in 1992 by Drs. Len Travaglione and Joan Gold. Both had spent much of the 1980s working at New York University’s Rusk Institute’s Head Trauma Program. The program at NYU was the first in the nation to deliver comprehensive intensive cognitive rehabilitation to persons with brain injuries. After 10 years of post-graduate training it was time to move to the country.

Drs. Travaglione and Gold made their primary business goal to deliver the same intensive treatment in a rural setting and for less cost. Soon they were running two offices, one in Chatham, NY and one in Albany, NY.

Our current team is comprised of 9 professionals with advanced degrees in Psychology and training in neuropsychology. Our track record in helping people regain their lives after a brain injury is well established.

We recognize rehabilitation to be a complicated and involved process that requires an extraordinary effort from all concerned. The effects of the injury extend far beyond the brain; jobs are lost, friends distance themselves, and family structures become challenged.

At NPRS we see ourselves as coaches and the patient as a trainee. In fact, you will not hear the word ‘patient’ used at our facility. Like an athletic training program coaches meet daily to review goals and quantify progress. Likewise our trainees practice, rehearse and perform on the field of their lives. The results of our efforts are designed to help you perform to your highest potential.
